Goodnight, Construction Site

The littles get down and dirty with this art project filled with space, value, shape, form, texture, and color…WAIT thats all 7 elements of art wrapped up in this 2 day project! After reading the book Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site by Sherri Duskey Rinker which is a story highlighting the jobs of construction vehicles on a work site. We created orange from red and yellow, and added texture to the project with sponge painting and ‘MUD’ splattering!

Little Blue Truck Landscape

Here is a really fun project based off of the book Little Blue Truck by Alice Schertle. The landscape illustrations of the little pickup truck going up and down the fields creates movement, color and texture. The landscape has a lot of depth, from the close-up wildflowers to the trees and cloud and fields in the distance. This lesson is geared for 3-5 graders.

Fly with Amelia Earhart

For grades 3-5 this chalk drawing captures value, texture and emphasis. This take 2 sessions to complete. First we discussed Amelia’s journey of flying. Students created a 3D look on the plane’s wings and Amelia’s hat with simple chalk pastel highlights and shadows technique. Next special emphasis and shine is placed on parts of the project with the addition of tin foil.

Double Decker Bus

My K-2 did a fun project focusing on value, texture, and space. This was a 2 part project. We started with the skyline painting the most distant set of buildings in grey then followed with the skyline in black. With a piece of cardboard texture was created by dragging the edge to make tire marks on the street. The second part we created the bus with fun wheels and windows.
